What is the Huaka‘i Project?

“Huaka‘i” means journey in Hawaiian—and this project is all about journeying together in faith.

Led by the Office of Evangelization & Catechesis and powered by local leaders in collaboration with EPIC Ministry with a grant from the McGrath Institute for Church Life at Notre Dame, this project invites young adults (ages 18–39) across the islands to:

  • Form small groups rooted in authentic friendship and spiritual support

  • Grow in faith through powerful catechesis, prayer, and Gospel-centered conversation

  • Live the Gospel through meaningful service projects focused on the corporal works of mercy

It’s a movement of young Catholics stepping forward in community, mission, and hope.

Who is it for?

The Huaka‘i Project is for young adults (ages 18–39) from all walks of life who are seeking:

  • Meaningful connection with others

  • A deeper sense of purpose

  • A desire to serve the community with compassion

This project is open to anyone interested in learning more, or simply looking for a space to grow spiritually and build authentic relationships.

Whether you’re deeply involved in your parish, new to faith, or just exploring what you believe—there’s a place for you on this journey.

Why Now?

Our world is hungry for hope, healing, and authentic witness.
The Church in Hawai‘i is responding—not just with programs, but with people ready to walk the walk.

This isn’t just about small groups.
This is about forming missionary disciples—people ready to love like Christ and serve with joy.
