Mission

The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry strives to provide a model of comprehensive ministry to help young people become true disciples of Christ in the world by encouraging full, active, and responsible participation in the life and mission of the Church.

As the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry carries out its mission, it remains faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church and follows the framework as set forth by the USCCB in their documents: Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry and Sons and Daughters of the Light: A Pastoral Plan for Ministry with Young Adults. 

Goals

Specifically, we empower those engaged in youth and/or young adult ministry to respond to the needs of today's young people by:

• Providing parish support through consultations, resources, team training, networking parishes within the vicariate, and communication;
• Providing leadership training which includes specific training on youth and/or young adult ministry skills and issues, and appropriate leadership formation for young people.
• Providing opportunities for young people to experience the larger church community through Diocesan and/or Island Youth Days, Diocesan and/or Island Young Adult Events, pilgrimages and mission trips (including World Youth Day) and retreats.

Ultimately, we seek to draw the youth and young adults of our diocese, and those called to serve them, into more responsible participation in the life and mission of the Church.

The Diocese of Honolulu is a member of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM).
