Congratulations Annicelia Agbayani of Our Lady of Good Counsel School and Dr. Glenn Medeiros of St. Louis School!
Both have been named this year's recipients of the Hawaii Catholic Schools Golden Pine"apple" Award for the Teacher and Administrator of the Year. Annicelia Agbayani is the awardee for Teacher of the Year while Dr. Glenn Medeiros is this year's Administrator of the Year. Both awards recognize excellence in outstanding teachers/specialists and administrators within the Catholic Schools in the State of Hawaii. The Golden Pine"apple" winner was announced earlier this month at the annual Hawaii Catholic Schools Recognition Luncheon sponsored by Lands' End Outfitters, Altres, Renaissance, and SubSpark. Both winners received $1,000 total from HCS, Chaminade University and John C. and Mary Lou Brogan and $1,500 for their respective schools to be used for Staff Development from Augustine Educational Foundation.

When presenting the award, Dr. Dale Fryxell shared that, "Mrs. Agbayani has spent nearly three decades comforting tears, tying shoes, teaching prayers, answering very important questions about dinosaurs and snacks, and somehow still making every child feel loved and special by the end of the day. Beyond her outstanding teaching, Mrs. Agbayani is deeply committed to faith formation, weaving prayer, kindness, and Catholic values into the everyday experiences of even the youngest learners. Whether teaching children the sign of the cross, leading them in prayer, or simply modeling Christ-like compassion through her actions, she reminds us that Catholic education begins with love. Her impact reaches far beyond the classroom. Families return generation after generation because of the care, faith, and dedication she brings to her school community every single day."

For the Administrator of the Year award presentation, Dr. Dale Fryxell shared why Dr. Glenn Medeiros was the 2026 recipient. "For nearly 25 years, Glenn has dedicated himself to Catholic education and has spent the last 11 years leading Saint Louis School as the longest-serving president in the school’s 180-year history. Under his leadership, the school has eliminated millions of dollars of debt, raised millions of dollars for new facilities and renovations, strengthened partnerships across the community, and helped Saint Louis become the outstanding school that it is today. You know someone is a truly effective school president when they can successfully manage budgets, accreditation visits, construction projects, board meetings, fundraising campaigns, and teenagers — all at the same time — and still somehow remain calm and smiling. Glenn leads with faith, humility, compassion, and a genuine love for students and families. Whether through his service on numerous community boards, his mentorship of young leaders, or his commitment to strengthening Catholic education throughout Hawai‘i, Glenn continually reminds us what servant leadership truly looks like."
