A powerful Kona low storm system brought torrential rainfall, with 10 to 16 inches falling in a single day in some areas, triggering flash floods, landslides, and widespread damage. Community flood disaster relief efforts are stepping in to support affected residents, ensuring access to essential supplies during recovery. These efforts come as communities recover from what officials and news reports are calling the worst flooding event in more than decades.
In response to historic flooding across, Hawai’i’s Food Banks are partnering with trusted community organizations to host emergency food distributions. These community-led food distributions are specifically intended for residents impacted by recent flooding. On Oahu, St. Michael Parish is working with the Knights of Columbus and EPIC to help people in the Waialua area. To volunteer help, please call 808-637-4040 or 808-223-3249.
