Continuing to Amplify God’s Voice of Hope in Maui

Despite the difficulties you have had . . . know that God’s hand is moving in thousands of people throughout Hawaii, the United States, and the world is reaching out to you in this greatest hour of need.” Bishop Larry Silva August 13th Sermon, Maria Lanakila Parish in Lahaina, Maui.

Bishop Larry Silva words continue to call all to compassionately respond to the suffering survivors who lost loved ones, their homes and livelihoods in the devastating Maui wildfires: “If we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. He can calm the storms, give us the ability to accomplish miraculous deeds. Bishop Larry reminds us that  “We who have the blessing of believing in God and in the power of the Lord Jesus also have a responsibility to stand in the midst of winds and fires of grief and frustration to amplify ..this tiny voice of God that indicates his never-failing presence and care for us..so that this whispering voice of God will be our guide and our hope.”

The Diocese, all of Hawaii and many in the world are responding to this call to amplify Gods’ voice of hope in Maui. Countless individuals and families are being helped in multiple ways. Signs of hope are emerging. Lahaina’s Maria Lanikila Catholic school is functioning at the parish mission church in Kapalua, providing children impacted by the fires a safe place to share learning together. Maui’s vicar, Msgr. Terry Watanabe is leading the local Catholic generous compassionate response from all the parishes on the island as well as in the whole diocese.
