Welcome to the Permanent Deacon Formation Website.

In January 2013, the Diocese of Honolulu will begin a new five year period of formation, preparing men for ordination to the Order of Permanent Deacon.  Those men who are interested in learning more about the Permanent Diaconate, especially eligibility and general information should follow the link to “Deacon Inquirer.”

The purpose of this site is to provide information regarding the Ministry and Role of the Permanent Deacon and to guide interested men in the steps necessary to deepen their understanding of the Order of Deacon.

Those men who, after reviewing the material on this page, desire to gain further information regarding the Permanent Diaconate, are encourage to attend an “Inquiry Weekend” to be held at St. Stephen Diocesan Center.  Attendance at an Inquiry Weekend is mandatory for any potential applicant and, if married, his wife.  Reservations are currently being accepted for either the weekend of March 9-11, 2012 and June 8-10, 2012.

The Office of Permanent Deacon Formation is responsible for coordination of recruitment, screening, selection and formation of candidates for the Permanent Diaconate.

Information on the Permanent Diaconate

Basic Eligibility: Application to the Permanent Diaconate is open to all baptized Catholic males, married or unmarried, who will reach the minimum age of 35 at the time of ordination.
