Budget Training
A Mahalo to Chad Buchanan and his team at the Salvation Army Family Service Unit for being so gracious in providing training for our Social Ministry Coordinators in all four vicariates on “Spend Less, Eat Well, and Feel Better.” This training will equip coordinators to assisting clients who come to them needing practical skills on budgeting and basic shopping. Our next ones are on May 30th at St. Ann Parish, Kaneohe and May 31st at St. John the Baptist Parish, Kalihi.

PSM Retreat/ Next Outreach Meeting
Our next Outreach meeting is on Wednesday, July 19th at Star of the Sea Parish from 9:00 a.m. -10:30 a.m. followed by our semi-annual re-treat and Holy Eucharist Our theme for this year is “service” and the retreat master is Fr. Eli Carter, Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Waianae.

We are looking forward to our summer retreat for recharging our human batteries. As you know it can be overwhelming working in Social Ministry as we try to meet the ever increasing needs of our community.

“How to Support People In Grief”
Aaraon Yamasaki, Bereavement Counselor at Hospice Hawaii, Hilo, will be leading a training session on September 30th at Sacred Heart Parish Hall, Punahou, on how to support people in grief. Aaron will also be leading us and giving us ideas on how to support children who are grieving. Please don’t miss this opportunity. Look for more information in the next newsletter.

Empowering Communications
Dr. Evelyne Raposo, a licensed clinical psychologist, will lead us in a one day workshop at St. Pius X Parish, Manoa, on November 18th, addressing the topic of Practical, Respectful, Assertive and Yeffective Communications (PRAY). Great opportunity to learn some new ways of dealing with people from different cultural backgrounds and different age groups. Please mark your calendars.

Feeding Program
There is a feeding program out of St. Andrew’s Priory on Sunday afternoons. This is a great opportunity for confirmation students or anyone who has some extra time to help feed about 250-300 Oahu homeless people. Please contact Rev. Richard Rubie at 524-2679.

Catechetical and Pastoral Institute July 10-July 15
Our Religious Education Department is offering various enrichment classes such as Spirituality: a walk with the poor Jesus, Faithful Citizenship: Civic Responsibility for a New Millennium, Catholics Come Home etc, morning from 10:00 am -12:15 pm and also from 7-9:15 pm.
