Preface

This handbook on policies and guidelines is designed to be a quick reference for priests, deacons, and pastoral staffs in their parish ministry in the Diocese of Honolulu. The material contained within pertains principally to the sacramental and liturgical life of the Diocese and the Universal Church.

The material is presented in summary or synthesis form with references to the complete policy or guideline, memorandums of the Bishop and canonical sources for such materials.

The original handbook, which each parish should already have was coordinated by various diocesan departments and offices including the Office of Tribunal and Canonical Affairs, the Office of Worship, the Religious Education Department and Youth Ministry Services. It is designed in order that additional policies and guidelines, as they are promulgated and summarized, may be added to this reference work.

Parish pastoral staffs are encouraged to use this reference work in the day-to-day activity and ministry of parish life. It may be duplicated for as many persons as needed, such as pastors, parish secretaries, DRE's principals, liturgy coordinators, youth ministers, pastoral council chairperson and more.

These policies and guidelines have been reviewed and revised where needed and the policies and guidelines summarized in this handbook contain the weight of particular law in the Diocese of Honolulu.
