Of note from the Vatican, Pope Benedict the XVI announced today the formation of the first new Vatican department (called “dicastery”) in over 25 years: the pontifical council for the new evangelization. The purpose: “to re-propose the perennial truth of the Gospel” in places where it is struggling, e.g., North America and Europe. The official name and head of the dicastery were not given but are expected to be announced in the near future.
