Commitment

For the members of the FIAT groups who would like to make a deeper committment, here is a formula written by Cardinal Suenens:

Most Holy Spirit

I, __________________________________________________,
in the presence of my brothers and sisters in the Lord:
Wish to commit myself
To being a witness of Christ and of the Father's Love.
However, knowing my weaknesses and my fears,
I confidently offer myself to You
So that You might fill me
With Your strength and Your power,
In order that I might have the courage to announce the Gospel
in Words and in Action, always and everywhere.

Bring about in me
A New Pentecost like the one of old, which
In the Upper Room in Jerusalem,
Transformed the disciples into apostles and
Where, in prayer with Mary,
The Mother of Jesus and of the newborn Church,
They awaited Your coming
Which inaugurated the first Evangelization.

Reveal to me
The secret of union with Mary, so that
With Her I may be totally receptive to
This personal Pentecostal outpouring and
That with her I can stand
At the foot of the Cross
And accept with love the redemptive suffering
Which is at the heart of every apostolate.

Grant that I may
Be stimulated by the Word of God
Which the Church offers in its liturgy each day,
Nourished as often as possible by the Eucharist, and
Partaking regularly in the Sacrement of Spiritual Healing.

Awake in me
A lively faith which will activate my prayer-life,
By making me available to serve others with love,
And by giving me the words of Your wisdom, so that
In my family, professional and social life,
I may announce with courage and perseverance the truth
That Jesus Christ is Lord.

Give me
A firm and unshakable faith
Which will inspire me to undertake and accomplish
In a faithful way a resolute and regular apostolate.
A faith which is like a torch in my hands
To fill with light a world which through sin is enveloped in darkness.

Grant that I may
Share a common bond with the members of my Evangelical cell
Meeting regularly with them to develop and
Deepen our spiritual and apostolic lives, so as to
Encourage one another to perform actions which will advance
God's reign and promote charity and service among all people.
Teach me
To live in trusting union
With the pastors of the Church:
With the Holy Father, the Bishops and the Priests
So that with them I might
Take upon myself my share of responsibility
In the New Evangelization.

Teach me
To live here on earth with renewed Faith
In communion with the glorious Church in Heaven:
Together with the Angels who surround and protect us,
The Saints who inspire and encourage us,
Our deceased who are nearer to us than ever,
And that, having accomplished my mission, my life might end
In the joy and glory of the Most Holy Trinity. Amen.

Saint Joseph, Protector of the Holy Family,
Protect me.
Saint Michael the Archangel, from the Powers of Evil,
Defend me.
All Angels and Saints,
Pray for me.
