Introduction Have you ever wondered what Mary was doing in the upper room, the Cenacle, with a whole group of men and women, Jesus' disciples,? Was her mission not terminated? Many years before, Gabriel has asked her to be the mother of Jesus so that He could come into the world and fulfill His mission, through the Holy Spirit. She said: "I agree" (FIAT), and thanked God for her mission. She immediately sprang into action and went to help her cousin Elisabeth. After giving birth to Jesus, raised Him and followed Him to Calvary, was her mission finished? Not really if we remember that Jesus asked her to look after the disciple that was with her at the foot of the Cross, this disciple being all of us. Together, they went to the upper room where a group of Jesus's followers hid, afraid of retaliation. There, she welcomed her Son's visits and understood His message to make His reign known to the end of the world. She probably even attempted to convince the disciples that, God being with them, they could all move ahead to fulfill their mission, but to no avail. As the Holy Spirit had for her, He came and opened these human beings to reality, empowering them for their mission so each one would say, as did Mary and Jesus, "I agree" (FIAT). Immediately, they opened windows and doors and started to spread the good news. The FIAT Spirituality allows us to personally join Mary, our model for the action of the Holy Spirit, so that each of us can achieve our mission of evangelization "in word and in deed, always and everywhere".
